The Diocese of San Carlos is located in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. It was erected on February 10, 1988. It was carved out of two Mother Dioceses, the Diocese of Bacolod and the Diocese of Dumaguete. The people of the areas hewn out of Bacolod and Dumaguete speak different languages and belong to different cultures (Cebuano and Ilonggo);  evangelization and the celebration of the liturgy is thus fitted to the needs of the cultural groups by using the appropriate language in the location where it is celebrated.

The Diocese of San Carlos covers an area of approximately 200 sq. kilometers and serves a population of 800,000, 90% of whom are Catholics. These are spread out mostly over mountainous territory. The work of evangelization, celebration of the liturgy and work for total human development is carried out by 41 active priests.

The need for a diocesan college seminary came up early in the diocese's history. The challenge of serving two cultural groups called for founding a formation house that would form priests immersed in the unique cultural environment of the diocese.

DIOCESAN VISION / MISSION STATEMENT

We live in the midst of a dehumanizing poverty caused by economic exploitation, political manipulation, cultural domination and religious ignorance.

Therefore, calling to mind the words of our Lord, I came not to do my own will but to do the will of Him who sent me that you may have life in all its fullness, " and the teaching of the Church that man fully alive and developed is the crowning glory of God's creation," and conscious that we are agents of change,

We, the Pilgrim Church of the Diocese of San Carlos, inspired by the Holy Spirit and thru the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, are committed in Faith to incarnate the Kingdom of God, the kingdom of justice and love, by living as a witnessing, worshipping and serving community, sharing and participating in the task of transformation of the Diocese and the present day society;

We strive also to build a Diocese or a people of God where there are viable living conditions in freedom and participation, integrity, cultural and religious maturity; and to preach the Gospel to all people.
